Rapid Prototyping

Each week you will be expected to create 1 rapid prototype either pushing forward a technical concept you want to practice, or further exploring your project topic. I encourage you to use Observable Notebooks for this (you can sign up with your GitHub account). If you have another tool that you would like to use for this, email me with your reasons why and we can discuss.

Some examples for what can be done for this:

  • Fork a visualization that you like and replace it with your data to see how it reacts. Check out some of the collections available including: d3 gallery, generative art, maps and explorables, learning JavaScript.
  • Create a new notebook to explore your data, or play around with different data manipulation or visualization techniques.
  • Draw something abstract and quirky, strengthening your creativity and mental flexibility in trying something new.
  • Go through one of the tutorials to learn about how different libraries work.
  • Write your own tutorial on a topic that interests you.

I encourage you to have fun and not to take them (or yourselves) too seriously with these… you may surprise yourself with what you create.

Each week you can comment with a link to your notebook on the Commons post for that week. To get a full grade you must post at least 4 out of 6 weeks (though I encourage you to do all 6).
